Our nose picks the best from three popular bottles.

A recent invitation to a wine tasting I came across was headed with the words, Anything But Chardonnay or Cabernet. And that illustrates one of the interesting things about wine.

Changes in taste, changes in fashion and even changes in politics all have an impact on what will sell. For example, French nuclear test explosions in the Pacific Ocean did genuinely put a lot of non-French people off French wine.

While I'd be surprised if the US reneging on the global warming agreement will put consumers off brash American beers, it may have an affect on the international sales of American wines. Remember, in Ireland we wouldn't touch South African wine whilst apartheid was enforced.

So, just in case Chardonnay is about to go out of favour, I decided to compare three well-known brands.....
